Position victim

  • Place victim face up on firm, flat surface

Compression-to-Ventilation ratio

  • Use 30 compressions to 2 breaths

Compression Rate

  • Maintain rate of 100 to 120 compression/min

Compression depth

  • Compress at least 5 cm
  • Compressing more than 6 cm in adults decreases effectiveness and leads to injuries
  • CPR-quality feedback devices can help

Chest recoil

  • Allow complete chest recoil to allow blood flow to heart
  • Avoid leaning on chest between compressions

Interruptions in chest compressions

  • Minimize interruptions to maintain blood flow to vital organs
  • Do not move victim while CPR is in progress unless environment is dangerous or CPR is not effective under current circumstances
