Pediatric-capable AEDs for Reduced Shock Doses
- Use pediatric pads to reduce shock dose OR
- Attach pediatric dose attenuator to AED
AED Use for Victims 8 years of age and Older
- Use AED once available
- Use adult pads
- Place pads as illustrated on bare skin
AED Use for Victims Younger 8 years of age
- Use AED once available
- Use child pads. If not available, use adult and make sure pads do not touch one another
- Ensure child dose switch is one
- Place pads as illustrated on bare skin
AED Use for Infants
- Manual defibrillator preferred to AED
- AED with pediatric dose attenuator is a good alternative
- If none available, use AED without pediatric dose attenuator
